Styling Tips For Ribbons & Tags This Summer

Towards the end of last month, when the weather was a little brighter, my Mum and I had spent a lot of time out in the garden admiring the flowers, and making lots of different decorative items for the home. We had watched the YouTube tutorial from the lovely Chris Myers at The Cozy Club, who had shown us how to get cozy during lockdown, and we thought making her beautiful glass lanterns would be a lovely thing to do together. It was during this time that we got a bunch of my different coloured ribbon bundles and tags and started having a play around with what we had made. You've got to love a little finishing touch, so I thought I'd share some of our ideas with you to try for yourself.

We used the lanterns from the tutorial to put candles in and decorate the garden outside for Midsummer, which we finished off by tying some pieces of my naturally dyed ribbon around the rims of the jars. Some of the lanterns were used as posy vases instead, and ribbon was tied around those too.

For the jars that were to go inside the house, we also tied handwritten calligraphy tags in order to add to the whole display. They look so beautiful together with the combination of different textures from the flora and the papers, to the fabrics and the metals. The jars makes such a beautiful display piece. We used ours as centrepieces to decorate the tables, on the mantelpiece in the house, and hung some in trees and on fences.

Both the ribbons and tags can also be used for wreaths and flower crowns, as they add such a beautiful pop of colour and decoration to all the natural elements. My Mum and I had made these flower crowns to celebrate the solstice and they felt so magical to wear. Now that Midsummer has come and gone, we have chosen to display our crowns as wreaths on the doors and walls of the home. That way they can be lasting memories of a wonderful day spent together.

I can't wait to experiment further with these as I'm always looking for new styling ideas. I usually wear my ribbons either in my hair or in my shoelaces, but I think these styling tips for the home mean that you can get so many different uses out of them. My ribbon bundles are sold in 2.5m lengths so there's plenty to play around with from one bundle alone. You can always create your own customised tags too if you had a particular event or celebration where you wanted to get creative and decorative. Just select your wording and ribbon colour and you're ready to go!

I hope these tips and photos have inspired you to get creative in your own home, and I'd love to see what you come up with!
